Standardized Assessment - Parent Request to Refuse

In Oregon, students take annual assessments in the areas of English Language Arts and Math from 3rd grade through 8th grade and in their Junior year of high school.  Students in 5th grade, 8th grade, and their Junior year also take a Science assessment.  Students who are learning English as their second language take the English Language Proficiency Assessment (ELPA).

The state tests are designed to give an overall indication of student achievement and progression on the expected learning at each grade level.  The school-level results are reported publicly and form the basis of the school ratings and report cards.

To learn more about the assessments your student will take, please see the following documents provided by the Oregon Department of Education:

Under Oregon Law, parents have the right to refuse their students' participation in the state's standardized assessments.  Below are the forms for parents to use when making that decision.

Please return completed forms to the front office of your student's school.
