Mrs. McKean
Hi Wildcat families! I am your new music teacher and here are some things I want you to know about me:
My name is Amy McKean and I have been teaching in the Tigard-Tualatin School District for 12 years. My background is in percussion performance, so when you visit my classroom you see a lot of instruments! I have an after school marimba and drum ensemble for 5th grade students, called "Zomba," which performs at school and in the community. Over the years Zomba has had many high profile performances, including the Oregon School Board Association, the Northwestern Conference for the National Association for Music Educators, and as pregame for the Portland Trailblazers.
I also love to travel. In 2014, I was awarded a trip to Tanzania, Africa with UNICEF because of my work on behalf of the Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF campaign. And, this summer I became a “Fund for Teachers” Fellow and traveled to Guatemala to study Spanish and Guatemalan Marimba. I am hoping to travel to Ghana next summer to study African drumming and dance!
